Balance

Updated: Sep 18, 2025

Today, I came across a humorous LinkedIn post about candidates cancelling interviews with surprisingly creative excuses, or attending interviews in rather unconventional ways.

One said: "I can’t come because someone stole my trousers".

Another joined the interview(online) while cooking dinner live , maybe trying to show multitasking skills? Points for creativity… but not the best timing!

But it also got me thinking: what about the other side of the interview table?

Recruiters today (if they respond at all) sometimes give feedback like:

👉 "We’re still looking for a good fit" - even though the same job’s been posted for 6+ months 🙃

👉 "We prefer someone who has never changed companies" - because loyalty over learning, right?

👉 "We’re looking for early-career candidates" - for a very senior and demanding project

👉 "You’re too light" - ( I guess I need to gain more... experience?)

... And then, of course… radio silence. Even after a follow-up.

So I’m genuinely curious : is there any real harmony or balance between recruiters, hiring managers, and the job roles that actually need to be filled?

Until all sides are aligned on what's really needed (skills, expectations, timeline), the process will keep dragging… and great candidates will keep slipping through the cracks.

So yes, harmony is possible - but only if everyone’s actually playing the same tune.
