FOMO, FOBO & JOMO: Welcome to the Age of Digital Drama

Updated: Nov 14, 2025

Wait… what on earth are FOMO, JOMO, and FOBO : and why do they sound like a new boy band?!

FOMO - Fear of Missing Out

You know the feeling. Your phone dies for ten minutes and suddenly you're convinced everyone's living their best life without you.

FOMO thrives on Wi-Fi and panic - it’s the art of scrolling through everything, just in case something important happened ; news, messages, random accounts you don’t even remember following ; just in case something life-changing happened in the last five (FIVE!) minutes (spoiler: of course it didn’t).

FOBO - Fear of Better Options

FOBO is FOMO' s indecisive cousin. It’s what keeps you stuck on Netflix menus for hours because there might be a better movie hidden somewhere.Twenty tabs later, you've compared every option known to humankind, accomplished nothing, and decided the safest choice is… sleep.

And.......JOMO ! Joy of Missing Out

Then there's JOMO - the hero we didn’t know we needed.

It’s that peaceful, smug joy of not caring what the internet's doing. You close the laptop, enjoy your coffee, and feel weirdly proud that you didn't check your notifications for a whole hour.

Conclusion - or sort of - I could tell you how to 'balance' these three states, but honestly, that’s what Google and AI are for.

So instead, here’s my simple takeaway: if you've managed to reach JOMO that peaceful state where you can skip the scrolling, enjoy your own company, and not feel guilty about missing out - then congratulations. You've cracked the code.

You’ve officially won the internet… by knowing when to walk away from it ;)
